Career progression = “getting promoted” = Salary/pay progression

Job hopping is the practice of frequently changing jobs, typically within a short period (e.g., every 1-2 years), often to seek better pay, career growth, or new experiences. It can be seen as a way to gain diverse skills but may also raise concerns about commitment and stability.

Remote work ≠ on-site work

Other common terms include:

• In-office work
• In-person work
• On-premises work (premises = local)

Hybrid work(ing) combines remote and on-premises in different days.

Advantages of remote work:

• Higher pay opportunities in other countries.
• Flexibility in working hours, improving work-life balance.
• No commuting – Saves time and eliminates transportation costs.
• Access to global opportunities

Disadvantages of remote work:

1. Sedentary lifestyle: weight gain, poor posture, musculoskeletal problems…
2. Reduced social interaction – feelings of isolation and difficulty building relationships with colleagues.
3. Weaker team dynamics – Fewer in-person interactions may reduce collaboration, spontaneous idea-sharing, and team bonding. Misunderstandings.
4. It requires a good English level!!! And healthy habits are recommended too!

Management = gestión (“mandar a gente”)

Expression: “no pain, no gain”. “Gain” puede ser la ganancia de un amplificador (transistores, OpAmps) o bien una ganancia personar.

Ojo con la palabra “premises”, que aparece mucho en teleco: CPE = Customer Premises Equipment (equipo en local de cliente: el router de fibra, por ejemplo)

Introduction

You are learning A LOT of electronics in the first year of your vocational training. The next year will be more about specific use cases (audio, video, networking…)… but WHAT IF you went deep into more electronics?

You would become specialized technical roles without people management responsibilities, but still would earn a good salary. There are several options in the field of electronics engineering. These roles are typically focused on design, development, research, or technical implementation, and are highly valued in the industry. Most of these jobs are not really abundant in Galicia, but many allow you to work from home (remote work).
